Johoku stands as it always has stood.
HIROSHIMAJOHOKU’S PRIDE
Choosing your school, whether it be junior or senior high school, can be a once in a lifetime decision. How would you make such a choice? Would you choose a school just because your friends chose it? Would you decide simply based on how conveniently it is located? Perhaps you might be influenced by an image that people who graduate from the school have high academic performance? Is it OK to make such a choice based only on factors such as these?
The school that you choose will be your alma mater for life. I hope that, above all, the school you choose is the one that fits you best. But how to find the school which is the best fit for you? I would recommend that you visit the school and get a feel for the place, the students, and teachers you see there. There are certain elements that you cannot see from a picture alone. The atmosphere of a lesson, the tone of the teachers, the sun through a classroom window as students chat together. Such intangible things are hard to convey, but need to be felt, and are the stuff experiences are made from.
Johoku is a school with its own unique traditions and qualities. The school is rightly proud of these. These are the things that bring fond smiles among alumni, characteristics that have shone brightly for a long time here in Hiroshima. Naturally we are always striving to improve the quality of education here, with a curriculum geared to effectively prepare students for university and beyond. We want to ensure that Johoku is always a place with opportunities for cross-cultural experiences and English use, where ICT based learning can be enjoyed daily, and where students can pursue their own academic themes and interests supported by caring and inspiring teachers.
Johoku is also a place where you canmake lifelong friends. Students can be proud of being a graduate of the school and joining the brotherhood of fellow graduates who are playing important, impactful roles in many fields around the world. Last year, Johoku celebrated the 60th anniversary of its foundation. At that time, I introduced the phrase “JOHOKU PRIDE”. I want students to have pride in their own development; in their courage to try the difficult things; to take risks; to contribute to society; and to embrace the essence of the school motto: to never tire of learning or teaching others.
Johoku stands as it always has stood, high on the hill in Hesaka, Hiroshima. We are waiting for you here, for you to breathe in the unique qualities and characteristics of our school.
